The Bad Ending
Imagine a world in which climate change has made the Earth unlivable for millions of people. Starting in the poorest regions of the world, which are going to be hit the hardest, famines and food insecurity will drive millions to abandon their places of living and look towards areas of the world where climate change has had the least impact (Europe, America, northern countries), thanks to the luck of geographic positioning and highly developed infrastructure that absorbs some of the worst impacts.
As masses of climate refugees come into these areas of the world, they are met with heavily militarized nations that have robust concentration camp networks and AI surveillance capabilities that allow them to totally control and put to work a portion of these hungry refugees for little to no pay. Populations of these countries that decide to revolt have their every move tracked, are labeled terrorists, and put into the same prison/concentration camp systems. States begin fighting ever-increasing wars of destruction over ever-dwindling resources of arable land, water, and basics.
Some capitalists all across the world run to their underground bunkers and space pods to wait out the crises produced by the fruit of their own system, but you can only live on a food supply in an underground bunker for so long, and they can only stay in space for so long before they too succumb to death as their food stores run out.
Humanity begins fighting itself to death under a highly technological, AI surveillance state, eco-fascist collapse as they attempt to squeeze the last drops of value out of an Earth and global system that can no longer produce.
Both Earth, as a producer of use values, and the proletariat, as a producer of new value, have been so utterly exhausted that the system locks. A loud scream, whimper, then silence, rings from Earth as it remains motionless in the cosmos, its first attempt at intelligent life now gone forever.
I think the current anti-migrant culture, anti-terrorist and communist hysteria, ICE, AI surveillance state, Gaza ‘laboratory’, and build out of prison infrastructure we are seeing all across the world are dress rehearsals for this. I don’t think this is necessarily planned out by a group of shadowy individuals, but it is something being evolved towards as capital reacts to new situations.
Will this actually happen? Depends on the strength of the proletariat and its class consciousness, but in a world where class struggle fails to materialize victory, and ends the system which necessitates endless accumulation in such a finite world, it’s certainly one of the many possibilities, and possible ‘good’ and ‘bad’ endings.
I say this all not to be a downer, or to actually predict with 100% certainty what will happen; obviously, there can be many paths taken, and I hope the negation of capital and class society is the one that wins out, perhaps somehow capital can outgreen itself, or perhaps humanity takes another avenue of self destruction, of course I’m taking liberties to exaggerate the worst scenario possible, but I say all this to really verbalize the stakes with which we are working with no matter which path capitalism takes.

Currently reading, Everything for Everyone by M.E. O'Brien. I think it has some interesting thought exercises with this subject, although the dialogue isn't my favorite thus far.
